The calculator desk for policy math
Three educational tools to test assumptions about premiums, deductibles and coverage gaps. Results are illustrations, never quotes.
Tool 1: Policy Discovery Finder
Select your category, objective, risk priority, budget and policy duration to get a transparent profile of factors to research. It is not personalized advice or an insurer recommendation.
Tool 3: Risk Gap Planner
Estimate the distance between what you might need and what you have. The planner adds an annual income figure so the replacement period can be calculated. It is not a formal recommendation.
Methodology and Assumptions
Calculators use simple arithmetic on your inputs. They ignore coinsurance, copays, sub-limits, inflation, taxes and exclusions, and never use insurer pricing.
Insurance Terminology Reference
| Premium | The price paid to keep a policy active. |
|---|---|
| Deductible | The amount you pay before the policy pays, for applicable claims. |
| Limit | The most the policy will pay for a covered loss. |
| Exclusion | A cause or item the policy does not cover. |
| Endorsement | An addition that changes the base policy. |
| Coinsurance | A percentage share of costs you pay after the deductible. |
Common Calculation Mistakes
- Comparing monthly figures to annual figures.
- Ignoring the deductible when comparing premiums.
- Treating the limit as guaranteed payout without checking exclusions.
- Forgetting liability can exceed policy limits.
Questions to Review Before Choosing Coverage
- What would a realistic claim cost me out of pocket?
- Which exclusions apply to my situation?
- Are my limits sensible against my assets?
- What documents will I need to file a claim?
FAQ
Is a result a quote?
No. Quotes come only from insurers or licensed agents.

Why do you ask for both annual and monthly premiums?
Either works. If both are entered, the annual figure is used.
